Best of Photojournalism 2012 from the NPPA
Another week, another photojournalism award for you to apply for! Thanks this time to Kevin Downs for the tip.
Today we have the US-based National Press Photographers' Association to thank for the opportunity. Their contest is billed as "The Best of Photojournalism 2012" . You can read the publicity here and read through the rules and submission criteria for the various categories on offer under the "Still Images" rubric here.

It also sounds like the awards may be more receptive to the kind of journalism that Demotix does so much of - front-line visual documenting of events, with reporters ranging from full-time professional photographers to beginners and enthusiasts. Take a look at what they had to say about the photojournalism environment of 2012:
Photojournalism is changing. Portable digital cameras are giving more people the basic tools to cover news events that affect their lives. Large media companies are integrating and showcasing photographic reporting in new ways. As a result, the popular culture is becoming more aware of visual journalism.
The Best of Photojournalism seeks to recognize the best work coming from this changing landscape, and set new standards for the future. We celebrate the craft of photographic reporting, not just the artistic and technical qualities of photography. Newsrooms need journalists—visual reporters who are rooted in accuracy, and can harness their aesthetic skills in their work.
All you need to do to get started is register on this page. Then you can get straight into submitting your chosen images.
Good luck!
