Demotix photographer honoured with Thomson Foundation Inquirer award
Today we're congratulating Ahmed Deeb, who's been contributing to Demotix since June of last year. We've just learned that he's taken third place in the photojournalism category of the Thomson Foundation's Inquirer Awards for 2011, for a story he uploaded in October.
The award has been presented each year since 2003 to journalists in Print, Television, and Photojournalism. This year, it was judged by top Middle East journalists and presented by Princess Rym Ali of Jordan.
Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions on inhabitants of Gaza, Ahmed wasn't able to travel to the awards ceremony in Jordan. We'd like to congratulate him on a fantastic job, and we hope you'll join us in sending him our best wishes and encouragement for the future.
Below is the cover image from his winning set, which followed the release of Dhaher Kabha, a Palestinian prisoner released in a recent prisoner-exchange deal with Israel. You can find the rest of it on Demotix here.

Ex-prisoner Dhaher Kabha who arrived back into Gaza, in a prisoner exchange deal, has met his fiancée Raeda, with her family after 18 years of exile. They decided to hold a marriage party on the Gaza strip to celebrate. Palestine. 25th October 2011 - Ahmed Deeb
