FEBRUARY: ODD

Demotix has launched a new competition. Odd will host the most quirky, odd and off-beat news from the best network of citizen journalists and photographers around the world.

There are no restrictions on how often you can enter nor when the story was taken. This is the perfect opportunity to go through your archives and share your imagery with the world.

HOW TO ENTER

It's incredibly simple. Upload your photos as normal, and choose the category Odd. Every story will be considered for the award. The closing date is the 28th February.

FEBRUARY'S JUDGE

We are delighted to have as judge the excellent Luiz Ribeiro, photo editor for the New York Post online news website nypost.com. The U.S publication is famous for being the oldest newspaper to have been published continuously as a daily, its website was launched in 1996 featuring the latest breaking news; entertainment, business, and sports blogs.

Luiz is himself an experienced photo editor and once consultant at Getty Images. He was awarded the 'Medal of Honor President Juscelino Kubitschek' given by the Minas Gerais State Government for relevant services rendered to the Country (Brazil).

THE PRIZES

First Place: the opportunity to turn your photojournalism into a beautiful coffee-table book. Blurb, custom book publishers for the masses, will allow the winner to produce and customize their own bookstore-quality book or books, up to the value of £50.

Teresa Pereira, Senior Director at Blurb UK, said: “In an age of citizen journalism and new media, Demotix is streamlining content to help tell stories that are too often overlooked, but affect all of us. Flipping the news gathering process on its head, Demotix is giving everyone a voice and platform on which to be heard. Providing that open platform is at the heart of Blurb's foundation and we hope that through books, these stories can continue to live on.”

Runners up will also be able to have their work printed - this time by Moo, the stunning card printers.

Second Place will receive 60 postcards of their best work, beautifully printed onto glossy stock.

Third place takes a set of Moo's innovative mini-cards, ideal for creating a pocket portfolio with a range of your images to enhance your personal brand as a photojournalist.

All winners will be featured on the Demotix blog and promoted intensively to photo editors and creatives worldwide.
