Photo of the week
Update: I foolishly forgot to make the poll at the bottom visible to everyone! Sorry to those of you who took the time to ask me for access. You should now be able to see and vote on the poll as intended. Many apologies to everyone!
We're trying out a new community project here at Demotix. Every week, we'll pick out a few photos that we really like and ask you to vote for your favourite for the title of Photo of the Week.
Which of the images below do you like the most? We'll leave the criteria up to you: is it a good illustration of a news story? An emotionally affecting image? Something you've never seen before?
The winner will be announced every Monday, along with the candidates for the next week's poll.
The nominees for Demotix's very first Photo of the Week are:
1. Ahmed Abd El-Fatah's panoramic shot of demonstrators in Tahrir square:

2. Pål Bergstad's image of a young girl at the Rose Ceremony in memorial of the dead in the Oslo attacks:
3. A young Palestinian boy playing with fireworks on the first day of Ramadan, by Sameh Rahmi:
4. A participant in Indonesia's Jember Fashion Carnival, captured by Marul Faruq:
5. A same-sex couple is married in New York, documented by Allyse Pulliam:
6. Michal Fludra follows WWII veterans at the 67th anniversary of the Warsaw uprising:
Those are good criteria
Those are good criteria donal, but don't forget that a lot of photo journalists' images are used to illustrate the news; they might not necessarily be explaining the whole story in the photo. There are a lot of subjects that you can't explain with just one image, and I think the others include some great illustrative shots and images that invite you into the story as well.
That said, I do really like picture number 1 as well! It's given me a much better sense of what Tahrir Square is like - and just how many people are involved in the movements in Egypt at the moment.

Interesting picks.
