We've finally finished our iPhone app. Download it and take a look!

Demotix is thrilled to announce the release of our new app for iPhone!

Speed is everything. The app, now available in the App Store, allows reporters to upload news directly from their phone as the story breaks around them.

While a lot of reporters currently upload breaking news from Wi-Fi hotspots and internet cafes near where they're shooting, the app will now let them cover the basics quickly using their phone's 3G connection and follow up later with a more detailed story and professional-quality images from their main camera.

It also provides a less conspicuous way for reporters to report news from places where being seen with a camera might draw unwanted attention.

Many of the images we distributed in 2011 (check out the Guardian’s coverage) were taken on cameraphones. The fact that the Syrian regime recently banned the iPhone demonstrates what a valuable tool the camera phone can be for front-line journalism.

The app also ties into our plans for the future; we're planning on making geolocation more important to the way we report and display the news we pull in from all over the world. That's why we're expanding our tech team with some new hires with experience in mobile development. Next step? - We're already thinking about how to build a great portfolio app to let our reporters show off their work on the go... ;)

any chance we get an android version ? Androids are best for international journalists - the phones come unlocked allowing you to buy sim cards on the fly

Love the app. I'd like to recommend a feature for a future update: the ability for the app to update with news stories Demotix is interested in, like the emails we get. They could be based on our phone's location, and would be helpful for news happening now.
