As usual it’s been another manic month in the world of Demotix sales! The end of the first quarter always presents a challenge, especially when it follows a year that saw a phenomenal increase in clients and revenue. I'm glad to say we have succeeded in passing the new targets and objectives we set ourselves for this quarter at the start of the year. Compared to this time last year when we witnessed events such as the turmoil of the Arab spring, the horrific earthquake and tsunami in Japan and...

This month, we've been able to do something very exciting for the first time: pay out the money we've earned from advertising on the site to our contributors. We're especially happy because we've been able to pay a brand new contributor over £100 for the story below. An image of Frank's big-earning story Frank uploaded his first set to Demotix of this passenger airliner lifting off dangerously low from Heathrow airport in London. What he didn't count on was that a keen planespotter would come...

We're going to keep it short and sweet for this month's Sales update - things have never been busier at the Demotix office, so we're just bringing you the headline news. January was a great month for individual image sales - we had a record number of sales to newspapers, despite the lack of any one big news story dominating the front pages. We've also been benefiting from the hard work the tech team have been putting in to make sure that your stories are top of the list in search results, as...

A selection of Demotix images in UK national papers over the last month - The Observer, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Sun, The Scotsman This month in Sales news, we've got a whole lot more numbers for your enjoyment. It being January, we're still wrapping up some of the loose ends of 2011 and working out just how we did last year in various categories - quite apart from the 250 per cent boost in overall sales for the year! That jump carried us comfortably past the targets we had set...

Photo: Gianfranco Spatola Quite apart from a massive sales increase of 250% over 2010, another truly huge success story for 2011 has been Demotix' traffic figures. They've gone through the roof - our monthly figures now look like this: 400,000 unique visitors 1.3 million pageviews 15,000 daily visitors That's all added up to a traffic increase of 120 per cent over 2010's figures. With browser figures like this, Demotix is becoming a news destination in its own right, welcoming around 15,000...

2011: Sales grow to 250% of 2010 We've got great news to share with you in this month's Sales blog. In 2011, Demotix' revenue grew to 250% of our total for 2010. This is great news for Demotix as a company, and great news for the hundreds of contributors we've split that revenue with. We had to double-check the numbers, because we couldn't believe it the first time around. It's true though - just this month, revenue was 195% of what it was in November 2010. A selection of 2011's most...

It's been another record month for Sales, with a frantic 9% increase in month-on-month revenue - which means an equal rise in the amount of royalties we've been able to channel out to you, our fantastic contributors. UK National Newspaper placements This month, we're focusing on some of the placements we've managed to achieve for your images in UK national papers. The papers have dominated this month's sales success story, with one contributor even managing a front-page placement in the...

Welcome to another edition of the Demotix blog, and this time we're publishing some stats Wais has sent over to my desk. The upshot of our results for August is this: it's time we were congratulating all of you out there for making this one of our best months ever! We had a total of 1,822 separate stories – meaning that you contributed an average of nearly 60 reports a day.To put that into perspective, it's our second best month since Demotix began - and August is usually a very slow month...

Thanks to you Demotix has made great strides in a very short space of time and we plan to take even bigger steps in the coming months and years. As our position in the market has become more established, we've had to make some minor tweaks to our terms and conditions. There are no big changes to the way we work with you, but we're now legally obliged to advise you of changes in UK law with respects to withholding taxes, our distribution partners and content removal policy. Take your time to...

Some of the eagle eyed among you may have spotted a new button on your stories. The idea is very simple. You load up Flattr with some cash each month (2 euros is the minimum), then just click the Flattr buttons on the things you like. At the end of the month, that 2 euros is split evenly between all the things you clicked on. Simple. Most of the comments on Demotix stories are congratulations for the author. Flattr seems like a great way to extend that a little, and throw in a tip for the...
