Sales update, April 2012

As usual it’s been another manic month in the world of Demotix sales!

The end of the first quarter always presents a challenge, especially when it follows a year that saw a phenomenal increase in clients and revenue. I'm glad to say we have succeeded in passing the new targets and objectives we set ourselves for this quarter at the start of the year.

Compared to this time last year when we witnessed events such as the turmoil of the Arab spring, the horrific earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the impending royal wedding, the first three months of 2012 have been relatively quiet, or so we thought. This year we have focused on pushing the breadth of our content so clients can turn to us, safe in the knowledge we are likely to cover multiple news stories or at least cover major stories from a unique perspective.

I'd like to highlight the efforts of our backend support staff, and in particular the work of our tech team who have made several important revisions and updates to ensure clients can find our images easily and quickly. Their work in improving our Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) has also led to a significant rise in our online sales too, which illustrates how high up your stories are appearing in the results of the various search engines. Year on year when compared to the first quarter of last year we’ve seen an increase of direct sales through the website by 44%. Long may it continue!

Visual journalists operate as trustees of the public. Our primary role is to report visually on the significant events and varied viewpoints in our common world. Our primary goal is the faithful and comprehensive depiction of the subject at hand. As visual journalists, we have the responsibility to document society and to preserve its history through images.
