Goodbye

Today on the blog, I've got an announcement that (for once) I hope will make at least a few of you a bit sad!

It's been the best part of a year for me working at Demotix, and it's been an amazing experience getting to know many of you from all over the world, helping you get your journalism out there, and learning how to use all the various tools we have at our disposal here.

I've been happy to learn and to have a go at anything that's been thrown at me, and I'll be keeping up many of the skills I've acquired. At my core, though, I'm a journalist and a writer. Seeing so many of you all over the world covering exciting stories has made me want to get busy on making my own contribution to the news!

So I'm parting ways with Demotix. I hope I'll still bump into you all now and then on my travels around the web, and I'm certain that Demotix will be going from strength to strength in the near future - I'll be keeping a close eye on how everything turns out. Until I leave on April 30, I'll be training up our good friend Skyler, who's already a hard-working member of the publishing team, to take over staying in touch with you all and making sure your questions get answers.

Good luck and, most importantly, stay safe to all of you fantastic citizen photojournalists out there!

Sad that you are leaving Demotix, but wish you all the best in your future endeavours all the same.

Thank you for all your assistance with my queries, as annoying as they were. You have been a great sport. I hope you will pass this quality to Skyler in your training...LOL!

On a serious note, good luck.

Every success for you in the future Tom ... :)

The Camera is a tool that enables us to see the light but it will always be blind without our minds and imagination.
People of mediocre ability sometimes achieve outstanding success because they don't know when to quit.

Tom,

This is the worst of news and the best of news :( :)

IMHO you are doing a fantastic job at Demotix and filled the need for community and site management most admirably. It's going to be a big loss to the community.

On the other hand, Demotix' loss, journalism's gain. Your reasons for leaving are an inspiration. In answering the call, we wish you every success and fulfillment.

It's small consolation that the reports of the Demotix community drove you to express your own voice!

Be well and all the very best.

The following tips are based on commonly accepted editorial values adopted by most mainstream media.

Visual journalists operate as trustees of the public. Our primary role is to report visually on the significant events and varied viewpoints in our common world. Our primary goal is the faithful and comprehensive depiction of the subject at hand. As visual journalists, we have the responsibility to document society and to preserve its history through images.

On our Editorial ethics for photojournalists page we have put together a list commonly accepted editorial values adopted by most mainstream media.
