Mahmoud Illean receives prize for 1 millionth image!

Written by Jessica Korman, Demotix Publisher in Jerusalem.

After three years of hard work from all of our contributors and the staff at Demotix we recently hit the milestone of publishing our first million images! We could not have done this without all of your contributions such as the image below by Mahmoud Illean who had the honour of uploading our millionth image:

In celebration of this momentous occasion we rewarded Mahmoud with a new iPad and I had the privilege of passing this prize onto him. Although both of us live in Jerusalem, we have never met before so it was a great opportunity to meet a fellow photography enthusiast and fellow Demoticon.

Congratulations once again to Mahmoud who shot that millionth image, and huge thanks to all of you that make up the Demotix community for your terrific support over the years. Keep on uploading your work and covering local events that matter and here’s to celebrating the next million images!

The following tips are based on commonly accepted editorial values adopted by most mainstream media.

Visual journalists operate as trustees of the public. Our primary role is to report visually on the significant events and varied viewpoints in our common world. Our primary goal is the faithful and comprehensive depiction of the subject at hand. As visual journalists, we have the responsibility to document society and to preserve its history through images.

On our Editorial ethics for photojournalists page we have put together a list commonly accepted editorial values adopted by most mainstream media.
