UPDATE: Mohammed Othman shot in the head by Israeli soldiers

We have had unconfirmed reports that Demotix photojournalist Mohammed Othman was either shot in the head and hand by Israeli soldiers, or hit by shrapnel yesterday and taken to hospital at around 6pm. Confirmation pending.

UPDATE: We have located the hospital and been informed that he is out of surgery and is in a stable condition.

We will update you on the situation throughout the day.

Demotix reporters in or going to troubled areas should be reading the RSF web site.

As RSF says this appears to have been a deliberate shooting of an identifiable Press photographer.

The latest update we have heard is that he was shot from 60 meters, he is in a stable condition but unable to move - this was a very tragic incident, everyone at Demotix sends their wishes to Mohammed Othman and his family. Please leave your messages of support.
