Demotix and social media

Good afternoon folks, and welcome to another exciting edition of the Demotix blog!

Today we'll be taking a look at how Demotix is using social media at the moment.

We maintain a number of accounts on Twitter and a Facebook page. Our Twitter accounts go by the names of Demotix and Demotix Wants. Our Facebook page can be found by typing Demotix into the search bar, or by clicking here.

Our main Twitter account and our Facebook page generally serve to notify you of the latest stories we've published; we post links throughout the day to contributors' photos as they are published. You're always welcome to say hello, but remember that the teams who currently operate these pages are frantically sifting through photos, trying to get them published and sold - they may not be able to reply right away.

These are good outlets to follow if you want to share your photos with your friends; having Demotix in your news feed makes it easy to retweet or Like your own articles - or particularly outstanding ones from other people in the Demotix community.

Demotix Wants is an account where we put out requests to contributors (old hands or eager recruits!) for material we think will be valuable in the coming hours and days. Follow this account if you want to be ahead of the game when it comes to getting your images into the media.

If you'd like to get in touch with our regional editors, you can use the following email addresses:
europe@demotix.com
mideast@demotix.com
americas@demotix.com
asia@demotix.com
africa@demotix.com

More to come in the near future on how our use of social media will expand and change!

The following tips are based on commonly accepted editorial values adopted by most mainstream media.

Visual journalists operate as trustees of the public. Our primary role is to report visually on the significant events and varied viewpoints in our common world. Our primary goal is the faithful and comprehensive depiction of the subject at hand. As visual journalists, we have the responsibility to document society and to preserve its history through images.

On our Editorial ethics for photojournalists page we have put together a list commonly accepted editorial values adopted by most mainstream media.
