M23 rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo, allegedly backed by elements inside neighboring Rwanda, demanded talks with the DRC government after seizing control of the the cities of Sake and Goma, sparking large-scale evacuations. Under international pressure, the M23 quickly pledged to leave the captured cities—however, as of Nov. 30, they remained in Goma, telling the Associated Press that they would "indefinitely" postpone their withdrawal.
