Put a story in yesterday (which was it's own saga) it got there in the end, then I read the brief once it was published.
I wrote
Occupy protests started in Dunedin......
The editor that got at it and hacked it into.
So-called 'Occupy' protests began in Dunedin...............
Now I had this down as factual, 'So called' is not factual, in fact it is showing the Ed's take on it. NOT mine, not the stories.
The Demotix meaning of the brief is
Facts! - What happened?
Keep it
Short
Relevant
100% Accurate
Give Names
End media summary with: City, Country. dd/mm/yyyy.
Now the diffinition of 'so-called' is "used to show that you think a word that is used to describe someone or something is not suitable or not correct". This from the dictonary.
Not very happy about this edit at all. I deal in facts, and the FACT is there is a branch of the occupy movement in Dunedin that started on the 15th as a part of the world wide movement. If your editor, sorry sub-editor doesn't understand this well that not my problem.
Facts Demotix, that's what it's about.
Go hard!
Apologies Stephen,
I edited your story but certainly not with the intention of misleading in any way.
I used the adjective 'So-called" in the sense that it introduces a new word or phrase, not to indicate my opinion on whether they are 'suitable' or not, particularly as the 'Occupy' movement is quite a new group, being only two months old.
Happy to re-edit should you wish.
Best regards and apologies once again.
Matt
Fair enough Matthew.
Yes I would appreciate it if you'd change it please.
The reason is as it stands it's very degrading like this as this is happening.
Stephen
Go hard!
