a new email telling people that the vital link is missing would be in its place.

I didn't get a second e-mail, Nuno. I will watch for it though.

I know it states 10 stories or more, but surely if someone has been added to the widget they should get a card also to encourage good work?

I could just create 7 more poor quality stories but that would not be in good spirit.

I already have one of the old press passes from Demotix but now have to wait to upload a couple more stories before I can get the new one... oh well

press pass is not for free. They want 20 dollars for this !!!

So, we can only get one if we have 10+ more stories? Is this a limited time issue? Or is it from now on? I don't mind paying $20.00 but do we have it printed or is it mailed to us?

Ok.. now I see that it costs $20, sad that you are only informed about this, after you send the application and you get a reference number.

it also mentions:

"Thank you for completing the Demotix Press Pass form. You will receive an email with your confirmation code and instructions on how to make your $20 payment via PayPal to billings@demotix.com."

Hi guys, just answers to some (probably not all!) of your questions.

1. Press pass is valid for a year.

2. US$20 includes delivery.

I never got the confirmation e-mail either.....

$20 is not too bad,I only have 3 stories published at the moment but will get a pass when i manage to upload ten. It seems to have a contact number on the pass for people to check that you are legitimate etc...so $20 is fair cost.

$20 is fine with me, but I'm still waiting on the confirmation e-mail.

Its more like a membership of demotix, but from what I understand from certain posts in the forums, some places recognize demotix as an official press 'agency' and will grant you access to photograph, however others don't - in which case you might want to ask the European office of demotix to ask for access for you, they might have better luck.

If you want to go the safe way, then a national press card from your country is the best thing to do.
Am waiting for my press card from the national danish press association, for the cases where demotix isn't enough or recognized.

Thank Nuno, I have three more stories to go before I will be knocking on their door for my press pass, by chance did any of you find out how to upload video correctly. I upload two and they were rejected, because the videos were not showing

Any chance that anyone from Demotix can answer the question about where the confirmation email is..I'm quite happy to pay $20 to get a Press pass....just wish someone would send me an email...or have the courtesy to respond.

Dear press pass applicants,

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that those of you that correctly completed the online application for the press pass and made the payment as instructed can expect the press pass to be delivered to the address they stated within 12 days (outside USA/Canada) and 6 days within the USA/Canada.

Applications that have been sent in any other method other than via the online application form will NOT be accepted. We only accept payments via PayPal that must be in USD $.

The problem seems to be, that nobody recieved the confirmation email with instructions how to pay for the card.

Also, when I wrote to inquiry about the status of my application, this was the answer I got:

"We are awaiting an update from the publishers and will contact you as soon as we have the details."

Never got any email after this...

Is anyone at Demotix listening?

Apologies if you are experiencing issues with your applications. I just tested the press pass email and everything is up and running. Please do check the following:
- make sure you are looking on your inbox that matches the email provided in your settings page
- also have a look in you spam/junk mail box

Alternatively, if you applied to the press pass and the email got lost , you can check your application number in your dashboard. That number is on the right hand side of the dashboard page and is enough for our staff to follow up with your application.

Finally, I'll transcript the core of the press pass email containing the payment instructions below:

You must insert the authorisation code provided (see dashboard) to you in the details field when you make the $20 payment to billing@demotix.com via PayPal.

If you do not have a PayPal account you can set one up at: http://www.paypal.com.

It is vital that you provide the application number in the details field of your PayPal payment. If it is not provided, we cannot match your payment to your personal details.

Once you have made your payment you will receive an email confirmation within 48 hours. Your press pass will be delivered to the address you have provided in the application form.

I hope this information can be useful. Our editorial team will get back to this thread soon to answer non technical answers.

I got a message in my dashboard after applying that syas: "You currently have an active Demotix Press Pass (reference #378548) click here to check it."
Never got the confirmation mail either.
Unfortunately, communication isn't Demotix strongest point, it usually takes too long to get an answer to any inquiry. It's a pity.

Hello Patricio Murphy as Nuno mentioned the email may have got lost. You may want to check that the email that you signed up to Demotix with is the same as the email inbox that you are checking as the confirmation email would have been sent to the former.

I can see that you already have your 6 digit reference number which means that your personal details have been logged in the Demotix system.

You will need to attach this code to your PayPal payment of $20 to billing[at]demotix.com. Once the payment has been processed you will receive another email within 48 hours of the transaction to inform you if the payment has been successful. Then once the ID printers have made your Demotix press pass you will receive another email informing you about the delivery of your press pass.

If you have any more questions please direct them to presspass [at] demotix.com.

Hello Casey - the Demotix press pass expires a year from the date of print and is delivered directly to your door. Deliveries outside USA and Canada will take longer.

The mail I have registered with Demotix is checked permanently, and I get all kind of notifications.

Wais, that's when I tried updating (actually faking an update, I just typed again some data) the request.
The original request was done around 16/7/2010.
You know what pisses me off? The fact that the first response is always that the error is on our side. Do you really think we all fancy writing complaints on forums? Because if you take a look at the forums, it's not just me saying that usually communication between Demotix and us is slow...

Probably an obvious question to ask, but does this mean that Demotix will no longer support those of us who still only have an "old" pass? It would be nice if they can give those of us with an old press pass some grace period to get additional stories in (and therefore qualify for the new one).

It might seem like my motivation is wrong but in my case it's just been a bad couple of years with one thing and another, so now I'm actually in a position to use my press card I suddenly find it's no longer valid??!!!

Just my thoughts.....

Hi just got my new press pass this morning. Looks very professional. Important to read the instructions that come with it. I like the rule that requires us to upload to demotix if we use the pass to get a story. Enjoy. Lawrence

Hi doydo lusabia. Thank you for bringing this article on the NUJ website to our attention. If I were of a sensitive disposition and had a weak heart I would feel very offended and very insulted indeed by what Granatt is supposed to have said. I certainly have never been told to swagger up to anybody and have certainly never shoved anything up anyone's face. As an ex-pat living in Spain these comments from the UK Press Card Authority really make me sad; you would have thought they would check their facts first. Pity, what a pity. Very interesting regarding the NUJ website. Demotix, please tell me you're going to at least make some statement on this, as well as possibly writing to the police forces in question and advising them of the scope of Demotix' news gathering activities? Our life as photographers is tough enough as it is !!
