What is very interesting in this video is when they are discussing the equipment needed. The women mentioned extra batteries, and power adapters, but both male journalists were emphatic that their Blackberry, and Iphone were indispensable for submitting their stories. Most of the time that is all they had, their smartphones, for submission.
This just adds emphasis to Demotix's recent push in the development, and release of the mobile submission app as meeting the needs of those on the ground reporting. This also gives credibility for them to port the app to other operating systems as soon as possible, as the Iphone is not the most widely used smartphone in the world, nor the best camera phone. Nokia is up there on both counts.
Just a Traveler With a Camera
I use my android phones WiFi hotspot function, turns my phone into a hotspot using it's 3G connection, then upload from my laptop, saves paying for a 3G dongle & no cables.
Suitable for most countries, I guess if you were in the middle of the desert you would be using a BGAN
