I will be posting photography competitions you can enter across the globe in this forum.
Please feel free to share any comps here yourselves!
First off, KLICK! is a photography competition about 'Your View of Human Rights and Globalization' run by a German website 'Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum'.
It's all about what Demotix promotes - your world from your perspective;
"Show us your daily life. What affects you and your surroundings. Let us see the world from your point of view...we are looking for photos that depict situations that you associate with major issues facing the world today.
For the 2011 edition, we are specifically looking for images that reflect your view of human rights or globalization, or pictures of projects, actions and campaigns that bring attention to human rights."
Click here for full competition details.
Deadline is 20th April.
Good luck!
I was attracted by the great topic -- "Your View of Human Rights and Globalization" -- but put off by the blatant rights grab:
"The editorial staff from the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum will decide which photos will be published. No claims can be made for unpublished photos. Please be aware that by sending your e-mail, you guarantee that you own the rights to, and are allowing for the unlimited usage and publication of, the submitted photo."

Devi has a point. There is so much bad publicity out there about competitions and rights grab that it is just not worth the hassle. Anyway if someone thinks my images are great they can send any prizes to the Editor at Demotix. More useful for the powers that be to spend more time trawling the internet to find out who is using Demotix photos without permission. best Lawrence

Hi Juliette, it's been a while.
Think this thread is a great idea, it's really hard to find decent competitions that aren't "win a 10x8 print of your photo" or whatever.
Here's one I'll definitly be entering:
The Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation for Int’l Photography Grant:
"The Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation for International Photography is currently seeking to award one outstanding global, social documentary photographer with a grant of 5,000 USD to be utilized in the production or completion of a social documentary project.
The pre-approved project must be produced in the photojournalistic tradition of Manuel Rivera-Ortiz, Foundation Founder & President. The winning project must be based on such pressing social issues in developing nations as health, poverty, oppression, war, famine, religious/political persecution, and much more."

Thanks Dev and Philip for your competition posts.
I agree that it's a problem that competitions tend to basically say, 'send us your pictures which we'll now effectively own'. However, there are some that don't do this and some only say they can reproduce/use them for direct marketing to do with the competition - even World Press Photo does this.
Here's a competition that ends soon - deadline 15th April, but it's a $2000 first prize.

"To call upon responsible photographers who respect and love life to take their cameras, in the context of stories/portfolios:
To explore and rescue the endangered folk cultures of all the world’s nationalities by means of photography; to profoundly record the changes and evolution of various folk cultures in a genuine and vivid form;
To record, spread and share the multi-cultures of the world to enhance mutual understanding and exchanges of human beings and to promote the world peace and development;
To contribute to the World Folklore Photo Museum with world culture records."
Philip - good to see you're alive!
