IT WILL BE BENIFICIAL FOR THE NEWS PHOTOGRAPHERS IF THE PHOTOGRAPHERS ARE ALLOTED WITH SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENTS WITHIN THEIR REGIONS,THEN DEMOTIX CAN GATHER MORE NEWS IMAGES FOR INTERNATIONAL MARKET.PHOTOGRAPHERS WILL ALSO BENIFITED IF DEMOTIX PAY THE PHOTOGRAPHERS IF THEY FULFILL THE ASSIGNMENTS IN DUE TIME. THIS WILL ENCOURAGE THE PHOTO JOURNALISTS TO WORK. SO WILL DEMOTIX THINK ABOUT IT ?

Interesting idea, but it doesn't really seem to be the model that Demotix is using, I do think Demotix could help with providing ideas and a list of upcoming events.
I do agree with you guys,,,,, undoubtly a good thought.
This will definitely encourage photojournalists & every one will give their best,,,& both will be benefited DEMOTIX as well as contributor ........
Even the calendar that used to be on the site with idea's appears to be gone. It just isn't the path that Demotix has chosen. If you are having a hard time finding news to shoot, buy a scanner and start listening. You will find lots of stuff happening that the public never hears about.
Really? Wow..... There are some here that do as well but there are many digital scanners on the market and the information for the frequencies is easy to find.
Even with a digital scanner the actual communications are encrypted, was told this when I contacted a scanner supplier, I would assume most services around the world will transfer to this type of communications in the future due to security and all that.
Hi guys, this is an interesting thread and I'd just like to chip in to see it continuing.
1. While Demotix does not 'assign' specifically, we do take heed of two things.
a. breaking news
b. upcoming news events
2. When either of these two happen, the regional editor in question will usually get in touch with contributors who are close to the location, especially those who have frequently delivered good and timely images.
3. We realyl want to work hand in hand with our contributors, without whom, Demotix would not even exist. But we don't want it to be a top-down hierarchy where we tell you what you should upload. You are free to upload any and all images and we will try to sell them. In some cases, we may offer advice and suggestions of what we feel is worth covering. An example is the current World Cup where we have been busy trying to mobilise contributors, well, around the world.
