Receipt of the Press Pass

Hello. I have applied and paid 20 eur for the press pass, I think it has been 5 days already or so, but I haven't got the confirmation email yet. I sent emails to a couple of people but haven't got any response as well. It is the first time demotix stays silent with me. I would like to know when I can get it, as I intend to travel and need it asap. Thank you.

I, too haven't received an email confirmation with regards to the payment being received and when I should expect my Press Card.

I had to check my PayPal account just to confirm that the payment had gone through.

Marc, we've had a problem with processing payments from us to the printers in Canada this week, but it has now been resolved.

Your pass should be with you in around 12 days. My apologies that someone didn't get back to you sooner.

I got my Press Pass exactly, if not before the 12 days. Thank you.

Just found out at a recent event that they are not accepted as proper Press ID. Only NUJ passes were being accepted.

Is something being done about this?

Recognition for anything creditable usually takes certification.

Certification usually takes some kind of training course.

And a training course -- or orientation course -- may not be such a bad idea.

It could be as easy as setting up a small on-line curriculum with such subjects as Fari Use Doctrine, Upload procedures, Ethics, etc . . .Someone needs to break this ground for aspiriting free will and truthful journalists who are not afraid of reporting truth in the advent of the mass communications taking place with the Internet -- and moving away from controlled and deceitful news

Not trying to make things difficult here but the above are usually equities to gain accreditation and professional recognition.

I used to be a training technician -- though in a irrelevant program. .

I have also sent payment (by Paypal) to presspass@demotix.com According to paypal it is not a confirmed account?

I have sent an email off to presspass@demotix.com yesterday asking for any confirmation as I haven't heard anything.

Paypal have just sent me an email stating the payment is still unclaimed.

We don't send out a confirmation that your order has been accepted because you already get a receipt for your payment from Paypal.

How this works is:

1. we check the Paypal account for payments since our last processing run
2. we find the orders which have been paid for and collect them together
3. we send them to the printers.

This happens a couple of times a week. Note that if you don't pay for your order, we won't even look at it!

So I have sent the order form off and the paypal payment, although both are separate but my paypal payment has all my order/account details in.

This is correct? all I need to do is not panic and wait?

Maybe it would be worth for future orders building paypal into the press pass form so they don't have to send in separately. Therefor linking it all in one form?

Just a suggestion really, I don't want to be telling you how to do your job Smile

That's something we do want to introduce in the future, but it's difficult adding to the tech team's workload at the moment.

I have still yet to receive a paypal receipt for my payment, it is still unclaimed.

Lets just hope this week will be more successful than last week :/

not sure what you mean here. do you mean you don't have a receipt from Paypal for your payment, or that you don't have one from Demotix?

We don't send out receipts - there's no point duplicating something Paypal already does automatically.

What about deducting the amount from balances receivable from Demotix, which have the concerned photographer?

As I understood Your lines here and these at the sites, Demotix does neither accept nor pay money otherwise than by PayPal and Moneybookers. If Alie cann´t send money by these providers, she´d hardly get her fees by them and she seems to be not the only one. So she´ll get at least the press card, if something of her pictures will be sold.

Peter: the press pass lasts for a year from the time it's printed.

I've discussed the possibility of paying for the press passes using revenues due to the photographer before with our money people, and it's not possible at the moment I'm afraid - those are two completely separate "silos" of money.

Luigi: we're working on it, but there's a lot to cover and we've got a limited number of people! We hope it will be ready soon, but we can't give you an exact date.

Benji: can you send me your confirmation code so I can check?

There is then the issue of Demotix Press Pass not being officially recognised by NUJ and other bodies in the UK. I find this amazing. Has Demotix contacted BPPA for instance on behalf of all the contributors that are entitled to a Press Card? With such a large numbers of contributors Demotix should be able to negotiate a special deal. Regards

Luigi, the requirements for the UKPCA card are completely different to the Demotix requirements.

For the Demotix card to be recognised all Demotix has to do is join the UKPCA as a gatekeeper and change the requirements for the Demotix card to match UKPCA requirements... which a LOT of the UK Demotix card holders have no hope of meeting,

Things are OK as they are now. Unless you are a full time professional that is the best you can get. You try calling yourself a doctor because you have done a first aid course and are passionate about medicine and see what happens.

The Demotix card is sort of recognised or tolerated most of the time depending how you behave. Behave like a professional on the ground and that is how you get treated in my experience.

I am having problems getting the PRESS PASS I paid for. It has be several weeks (paid on 5th March) with no appearance to date. Messages (email) goes unanswered and it has still not arrived despite being assured that it was being sent again. When I pay for something I expect to recieve it withing a resonable period of time. Demotix are obviously having problems doing this... why ???

Of course, the accountants doesn´t like the idea very much. But I know, that there are ways around these obstacles. It´s not unusual, that someone is also going to buy things or services at his clients and they´re shorting their payments by the amounts they earned themselfes.
