Why Demotix do not have a link for the photos which was sold ,it will be the photo, photographer, amount sold with and to whom was sold?
This will encourage the non active members.

How should we do that without embarrassing people?
Maybe we could have a selection from those people who are OK with us advertising this.
But you're right - it's a good idea. let's try to figure out how to do it.

I'm not sure that the competitive feeling, that might result from this information, would be encouraging for new members...

It is not the matter of competitive feeling,it is showing that Demotix in reality sold photos.

Hello Turin

I've seen this common question coming up on the forums and I see your reply in this case

>How should we do that without embarrassing people?

There's something called User Control Panel, which as you know is only saw by us, members, then there you can show which images have been sold, seen, widget selected then as Chaza said it may encourage to keep going for the new starters.

Also it will create a user generated promotion push bcz people will show others which images are being sold or shown and in which parts of the world.

It could be a mixture of all to provide that feedback to members

Cheers

Great idea, Juan - let me see how we might do it easily.

right, for us it's important to know "what" the magazines want
if we know better the choices of our customer we can work better and "improve" our profit

it's possible to make a page, like a blogroll, that show the sold pictures, the photographer and the customer
very quickly to read and rss ready

Turi, I think it's a good idea. You know better than us that the question "is there anyone actually selling photos?" arises frequently.
Perhaps it's just a matter of asking people if the do mind about you telling they sold photos.
I know first hand that collaborating and not selling anything doesn't mean nothing, i collaborated for some yeras with an agency, never sold one picture, but know several people who did, but it would be encouraging for everyone to know what is actually selling, I think.
BTW, thanks for staying open-minded and listening!
Regards
Pat

Dear Turi and Colleagues,

Hope you are all doing well. I been telling about the Demotix site and inviting photographers and friends to sign-up and submit newsworthy pictures whenever i see them shooting on the street and events. Most of them have similar questions like, " Is someone really sold a picture in Demotix? Have you sold a picture?

Hope we can come up with the right solution in this regard and at the same time uplift professionalism in Photojournalism.

Good day!

Rommel

Dear All,
Thanks for all your comments.
I'm going to do a couple of things.
1.
Put a post up in the Sales Page explaining everything we're up to.
2.
Try to figure out how we can run sales reports for you automatically.
We were running a system with a button - like the Widget button you get on your avatar - but with an 'S' for 'sold', but we couldn't do it automatically, so it became impossible.
I more than hear your queries, and we'll try to figure something out.
All thanks
Turi

It's not important for the general public to know, if we sold any photos. A list in our own 'dashboard' would be enough.

The attaction of Demotix shouldn't be "come and sell your photos and make $$$" or for buyers "get cheap newsworthy photos". It should be all about the great stories and getting photos from lot of areas, from the people who live there.

Of course I would like to sell some more photos, but that's not my motive on Demotix.com.

Hello all,

Im new here, have yet to upload any photos.
Reason is, im warry of uploading my pics where im not reasonably sure will generate any sales. There are a lot of companys wanting us to upload,upload,upload--driving traffic/money to there site & generally using our photos to do so, with no return for us.

""DISCLAIMER--i am absolutly not saying this about demotix, im just speeking in generalitys. I love the whole demotix idea, and thanks for starting the forums. i always have a lot of questions & generally get answers through forums.""

I would be a lot more motivated to upload if i could actually see or hear of people here who have already made sales!

Had i seen people making money i would already have uploaded as much as i have. I think most people are like this~~~they think if he sold x amt of photos im sure i can sell at least x amt of photos.

Wow, sometimes i talk too much, all i wanted to say is:

How about a forum thread where people post the photos they have sold here?

A kinda "yippi i sold a photo" and "congrats on you sale, nice pic" kinda thread?

I would start one but i dont know if we can post pics on this forum.

nick

BTW: anyone here have any sales?

I prefer to make a separate forum about this topic, this will be a good idea.

@Authenticpix - Firstly, welcome to Demotix! Obviously, uploading to Demotix is a choice for you, but there is no cost to you, you can remove your images at any time, you keep the copyright, and you take away 50% of all income from your photos.

@gskphoto - If you want to be in touch we can clear up your issue of miscredited use and I will find out what happened - andy@demotix.com

As to competition, PJ IS a competitive business so I do not believe that is an issue. It only makes one work harder.
Second, the agencies I work for like MeettheFamous continuously post sales results not only to our own profiles, but with banners across the home page.
Announcing sales is a VERY good idea. After all, the forum is public which may or may not be a good idea.
Just saying,

Dear All,
We STILL haven't redesigned the sales page, but it's coming.
In the interim, here's a very quick answer to (most) of your questions!

- Demotix sold high hundreds of images over 2009
- The best selling photo was sold c.100 times
- The average price for a photo sold in print was c.$100
- The best price for a single print usage was $1,200
- The best price for a single broadcast usage was $500
- The average price for an online single image use was c.$20
- The highest paying photo was c.$10,000 and the lowest was $2 (bulk image use online).
I simply can't give you the rest of the details!
And I'm also going to take this post down in a couple of days.
If we're trying to sell your pictures for $200, we don't want the picture buyer to come back and say 'but your average price is only $100'

In addition, we're going to be asking the entire community to agree to us producing a monthly gallery of some of our sales so that you can see what's working.

Hope this helps!

Turi

This is really a superb idea. Demotix should create a page showing the details of sold images with photographer's name. And the most important thing is that Demotix should announce specific assignments for the active photo journalists. The photojournalists of the specific areas will actively work and shoot some outstanding photographs and like other news agencies it should assign the phoographers to cover some important news events and Demotix should also provide Press cards to photo jounalists.
