Hundreds of families were left homeless after heavily armed security officers burnt their houses, claiming they were encroaching on private property. Laikipia East, Kenya. 9/12/2009.

The over 3000 squatters have been occupying the 17,000 acre land that belong to former President Daniel Moi. The family who are pastoralists have been living in the land for over two decades now. The police destroyed foodstuffs and beddings before burning the mud made houses called ‘Manyattas'. Families were left homeless in the middle of the Laikipia acacia plains with children braving the cold chilly wind. 
The families have vowed to stay put in the farms saying that they have nowhere to go. Some even started rebuilding their huts again.

A conflict is building up at Kenya's Laikipia East district as hundreds of families whose houses were torched by police start rebuilding again. The squatters have decided to stay put in the farm which is linked to the former Kenyan President Daniel Moi. Laikipia, Kenya. 09/12/2009.

A conflict is building up at Kenya's Laikipia East district as hundreds of families whose houses were torched by police start rebuilding again.
The squatters have decided to stay put in the farm which is linked to the former Kenyan President Daniel Moi.
Reports indicates that the former President have sold the land to an international conservation group, African wildlife foundation, (AWF)
By today, several 'manyattas', mud made houses, have been built as families who rely on pastoralism say they have nowhere else to go.
Many of the families had just relocated to their 'homes' from Mt Kenya forest where they had taken their livestock in search of pasture due to drought that rocked the country for three years.
They have resulted into slaughtering their livestock for food after the security officers destroyed their food.
They have been living in the 17,000 acre farm for the last 20 years.
