In an underdeveloped corner of Carnarvon, Western Australia, built two metres above the red flood plane, rests “Mungullah Village.”

43 dwellings of varying occupancy provide shelter and a sense of community to over 120 Aboriginal Australians.

The Village ebbs and flows with the intake of transient relatives and friends, and the deaths of elders of the community. Mungullah is a beacon of hope for a number of families who struggle to make ends meet on a daily basis, and is a testament to the positivity and hopefulness of the elders and youth alike.

Mungullah village is misunderstood and feared by many people who have never ventured inside it’s boundaries.
