Passers-by and emergency workers watch rising floodwaters in the central South Korean city of Daejeon.

This car was caught when the river rose suddenly, engulfing a riverside road. The floodwaters were caused by unusually heavy monsoon rains that resulted in flooding throughout Asia including southern China, India and Korea.

Song Seok-Chang who works in an office nearby said 'It makes me feel very uncomfortable. I haven't seen this much rain in 10 years. If we get much more I will really start to worry.'

Hundreds of thousands of supporters of former president, Roh Moo-hyun gathered in downtown Seoul for his funeral. Many were overwhelmed by grief, shock, anger and frustration. He was percieved by many South Koreans as the most democratic and least corrupt president they've ever had.

With so many opposition supporters gathered in downtown Seoul the police were on edge. A young boy and his mother left in tears after an altercation with nervous police.

The hearse bearing the president's body made it's with way through crowds of mourners.

Defiant citizens staged a non-violent sit-in in Seoul Plaza and the surrounding streets. The Plaza, one of the few open spaces in downtown Seoul had been closed to the public for the week leading up to Roh Moo-hyun's funeral due to fear of potential riots. The protesters were forcefully removed by police at 5am the following morning. Two protesters were hospitalised.
