Venice is under a heavy snowfall and severe weather conditions in the day before the end of Carnival. The high water is expected to reach 140cm above the sea leveL leaving more than 50 per cent of the city flooded.

Carnival ends with Lent, forty days before Easter. Venetian masks can be made in leather, porcelain or with the original glass technique. The original masks were simple in design, decoration, and often had a symbolic and practical function.
