Sait Özsanli died at 65. The old butcher was famous in the region around Diyarbakir (eastern kurdish part of Turkey) for solving hundreds of problems between opposing clans or families, helping to avoiding honour crimes. Becasue of this, he gained the nickname, 'the Kofi Annan of Diyarbakir'.

In Turkey, around 200 people die every year as a result of honour crimes.

Hundreds of people followed his coffin from the mosque to Diyarbakir's cemetery, where he was buried.

Means “Long live May Day” in Kurdish. May day has been celebrated on all over the country also in Diyarbakir; the city which has the most Kurdish population in Turkey. After the arests directed towards DTP ( Democratic Turkey Party ) members, many people anticipate that demonstartion would cause a confused sitiuation esspecially in Diyarbakir. But contrarily to due, the convention  was exhilarated, dynamic and peaceful.
