The annual May Carnival was held in the village of Winterbourne Down just outside Bristol. The carnival celebrated its 25th year.

Some protesters on Bristol's annual May Day march voiced anger at Primark for their links with the recent building collapse tragedy in Bangladesh. After the march, a group of protesters returned to Primark to blockade the store's entrance.

Several hundred protesters march through Bristol's centre on the annual May Day march marking International Workers Day. The march was followed by a rally and speeches from campaigners and trades union representatives.

Workers Memorial Day was commemorated in Bristol by holding a service at Bristol Cathedral followed by laying of wreaths. Amongst the speakers were Michelle Stanistreet GS of NUJ and Dave Smith of Blacklist Support Group.

Bespoked Bristol, The UK's Handmade Bicycle Show, was attended by a diverse audience at all levels. The exhibits included bamboo bicycles, urban commuting wheels, mountain bikes, to cycling art, coming from locations such as Tokyo, York and Oregon.

Hand-built bicycle frames, components and wheels, were all on display at Bespoked Bristol 2013, the UK's Handmade Bicycle Show. Exhibitors traveled from Oregon in the USA, Tokyo, Africa, UK and mainland Europe.

Delegates arriving to hear Boeing UK's president, Sir Roger Bone, speak were stopped at a checkpoint set up by anti-arms protesters who accuse him of arms dealing. The event was celebrating 75 years of partnership between Boeing and the UK.

For the first time since the 1970's, the UK has lost its AAA credit rating. Credit ratings agency Moody's downgraded the country because its assessment showed slow growth prospects for the UK economy and a high and rising debt burden.
