Megacity Dhaka gets into festive mood today with Holy Eid –Ul-Azha festival approaching nearer. Millions of people in Dhaka metropolis as elsewhere across Bangladesh are preparing to celebrate Holy festival of Eid-Ul-Azha. Many city dwellers have already left their apartments and settled in their village homes or homes outside the capital. They are
eagerly waiting to celebrate Muslim festival Eid-Ul-Azha with their relatives and near and dear ones.

Those who have decided to stay inside the capital city are rushing towards Dhaka zoo and other places of interest. The children are important ‘carnival makers’ who enjoy most during any festival. They also force their parents to visit nearest kiosks, small markets and shopping malls to buy their favorite items.

Bangladesh is a democratic country with high Muslim population (over 83 percent). Nearly 16 percent Bangladeshi follow Hindu religion while one percent believes in Christianity, Buddhism and other religion. Over 156,050,883 people in different parts of Bangladesh live within only 143,998 square kilometers and of which 130,168 square kilometers is land and 13,830 square km is water.

The bad news: Scientists who deal with climate change issues believe that if global warming turns true most of the arable land of Bangladesh will be under water. Many Bangladeshi in that time would be forced to accept a new status “Global Climate Refugees”.

The security was beefed up following jumma (friday) prayers at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque today after Bangladesh banned a controversial Muslim group popularly known as Hizb-Ut-Tahrir Thursday for 'destabilising' the country. Dhaka, Bangladesh. 23/10/2009.

It happened a day after a bomb attack targeted a ruling party lawmaker related to the prime minister.

Home ministry claimed that Hizb ut Tahrir Bangladesh
has been banned for 'unleashing destructive activities' and work that goes against the 'laws of the land'.

'We took the decision after reports from our intelligence agencies,' officials were quoted as saying.

Hizb ut Tahrir is a pan-Islamist group whose goal is to establish a global Islamic caliphate. The Hizb ut Tahrir
have been banned in a number of countries, mainly in Central Asia and the Middle East.

Hizb ut Tahrir's Bangladesh coordinator and spokesman Mohiuddin Ahmed said the allegation against his organisation was 'completely baseless'.

'We are law-abiding citizens of the country. We are not involved in any militancy activities...,' he said.

The latest ban brings the number of outlawed Islamic groups in Bangladesh to five.
