How to Use the Uploader
SETTING YOUR UPLOAD CODE
To upload by FTP you need to generate an Upload Code. You can’t use your regular password because FTP transfers your details unencrypted. You can choose your Upload Code and you don't have to change it for each upload.
To set your Upload Code, go to your Account Settings, add your Code and press save.
AUTHENTICATING WITH THE SYSTEM
You will need some FTP software. Filezilla is free - download it here.
Use your software to log into the Demotix server. The host address is upload.demotix.com. Username is the same one you use to log into demotix.com. Password is your Upload Code that you just generated. If asked, the protocol is FTP and the port is default.
START UPLOADING
If you have logged in correctly, you can now add files. You can drag and drop your images into the root directory, or navigate to the images with the software and select upload.
If the upload completes successfully, that's it! In a few minutes, these images will be in your Existing Images. You will receive an email if there has been a problem - please be patient as the images may take a while to process.
Important note: The system can process files from a folder that you upload. It cannot, however, look for files inside folders within this first folder. So folder/files is ok, but folder/folder/files is not. The system will keep sending email error messages. You no longer need a folder named after your token, as now each user has his/her own separate folder.
TRANSFER FROM PHOTOSHELTER
You can also use your FTP code to transfer files directly from Photoshelter to your Demotix Existing Images folder. Here's how.
- From your Photo Album, select the photos you want to move then click Transfer/Copy > Export via FTP.
- You will need to add a Destination, with these settings:
Transfer Protocol: Standard FTP
Path: leave blank
Username: your username
Password: your upload code
- Click Begin Transfer, and you're away! Your images will shortly appear in your Existing Images folder.
FAQs
Where do my stories go?
Once your upload is complete, your images are safely in the Demotix system. We now need to process them and transfer them to your Existing Images - this will take upto five minutes.
You Existing Images is your personal image folder. You can manage your Existing Images via your Account Settings. To add the images to a story ready for publication, click the Existing Images button on the Upload Story page.
If you are uploading a large number of files, we may need to process your images in batches - each batch will come through at five minute intervals.
I can't log into the server
Are you using the correct details? Please note the server address has changed - it is now upload.demotix.com (not uploads.demotix.com). Please check your username and upload code - do not use your Demotix.com password.
I can't install the FTP software
Demotix cannot offer support for the FTP software. Please check out the online help files, or try another FTP program.
