The Harfang takes off from Bagram Air Field for one of its missions. The Harfang is a reconnaissance drone without weapons, guided from a distance by experienced fighter pilots, transport pilots or a navigator. Bagram, Afghanistan. 11/03/2010. The Harfang drone plane is a UAV (unmanned aircraft vehicle), the first UAV was invented by the Israeli military and deployed against Syrian targets during the Yom Kippur war. The name translates as the ‘snowy owl’. Armed drone aircraft have been heavily utilized by the Israeli army to destroy Palestinian targets and by the US army in Afghanistan and in particular on the Afghan – Pakistan border. Today 14 people were killed in Maizer Madakhel area of Datakhel tehsil in North Waziristan, it has not been disclosed if there were militants or civilians.
