Campaigners to stop the Regional Council of Madrid from linking the two ends of the M 50 motorway (highway) met yesterday evening, 26 June 2009, in Puerta del Sol to bring their concerns to the attention of the people of Madrid.

The protesters’ fear is that by linking the motorway between Las Rozas and Alcobendas and San Sebastian de los Reyes it will create a number of environmental and quality of life problems for those living there.

A new road complex in this area of the north of Madrid, would, for example, create more pollution, destroy the Parque el Retamar (Retamar Park), divide the San Sebastian de los Reyes in half , affect the growth of the protected housing (rent controlled houses) in Cerro del Baile and of course use more land space for roads.
