The first of three private prosecutions against Judge Garzon begins. He goes on trial at the supreme court charged with illegally authorising police to bug conversations between corruption suspects and their lawyers in 2009. Spain. 17th January 201
The judge's supporters, regard him as the victim of a witch-hunt because he tried to investigate the human rights abuses of Spain's 1939-75 dictator Francisco Franco.
The trial, deals with the so-called Guertel case, a vast corruption network involving entrepreneurs and politicians from Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's conservative People's Party (PP)
