Disabled protestors block Oxford Circus in protest over Welfare Reform

A group of over 200 people blocked Oxford Circus in Central London this afternoon in protest against the government's Welfare Reform Bill. Tourists, shoppers and traffic jostled with protesters which included a group of wheelchair users who chained themselves together across Regent Street.

The protest had been orchestrated by UK Uncut in order to 'shame the government into withdrawing the bill completely' and highlight the injustice of making 'people's lives a misery while continuing to let rich companies rich companies dodge £25bn of tax each year'.

UKuncut claim that nearly half a million people would lose their Disability Living Allowance. People with terminal illnesses would be forced into work, and the flagship reform will push 100,000 children into poverty.
