The Sinulog celebrations in Cebu City, culminated with colorful and solemn activities in honor of the Holy Child Jesus or the Santo Niño. Beautiful lead dancers donning colorful themed costumes made mostly of indigenous materials, swayed with the image of the Santo Niño in the Festival Queen Night and on the Grand Parade.
Giant puppet effigies of Cebu City’s first Matriarch Queen Juana, Philippines President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino Jr. and Transformer’s Bumblebee also strut their way on the streets. Contingents from cities and provinces of neighboring islands, joined the celebration in chants and dances throughout the major streets of Cebu City.
Aside from the street festival mood the faithful also offered prayers & thanksgiving for nine days on the novena celebrations, culminating with the solemn procession a day before the feast day. An estimated almost four million people flocked to Cebu City during the feastday, January 15, 2012.
