Tsunami warning lifted in Cebu City after 6.9 earthquake
People fled their homes and went to the streets and high structures in Cebu City, Philippines after a false report of a potential tsunami triggered chaos in the city. Dozens have been reported to have died. Philippines. 6th Febraury 2012
People fled their homes and went to the streets and higher structures in Cebu City, Philippines February 6, 2012. This after pranks from some motorcycle riding men shouted in downtown Cebu City that a Tsunami was fast approaching. The prank triggered a commotion causing people to run in all directions causing traffic & some minor injuries.
A magnitude 7 earthquake struck around 11:49 AM, with the epicenter located at sea in the TaƱon Strait nearest to Negros Island while Cebu is the adjacent Island. Cebu City is on the east side of Cebu Island and the epicenter is at the west side. The prank caused schools and establishments to close down and send students and workers home. Despite the announcement of a false alarms residents mostly women with their children stayed for hours at the areas they fled to like the streets, churches and skywalks.
