University of Florida holds International Mother Language Day show

International Mother Language Day, a globally recognized holiday with its origin rooted in Bangladesh. On February 21, 1952, a group of Bengali speaking college students protested to make Bengali an official language of East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh). The students were murdered for their assembly. Their deaths affected the nation's consciousness and their activism started a linguistic movement and made history.

In 1999, UNESCO announced the observance of this holiday to promote the importance of linguistic, cultural diversity and multilingualism.
