The London 2012 Olympic authority is seeking to ban spectators from posting photographs they have taken on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and similar social media sites. Image taken in 2011.

The Olympic organising authority is proposing a ban on spectators posting photographs they have taken of Olympic events on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has ruled that images, video or sound recordings made by ticket holders can only be used for private purposes and must not be posted on social media sites. It is understood that LOCOG will seek to enforce this ban on spectators in public areas along the route of the cycle road races and marathons.

LOCOG believes such pictures will infringe their brand rights and copyright.
