A Tale of 2 Homeless People from San Pedro, Laguna, Philippines
I went around San Pedro, Laguna last March of this year, the place where I grew up as a teenager, to search for some interesting stories that I can put on my blog. I chanced upon seeing 2 old and homeless women who have been seemingly left alone by.
I went around San Pedro, Laguna last March of this year, the place where I grew up as a teenager, to search for some interesting stories that I can put on my blog. I chanced upon seeing 2 old and homeless women who have been seemingly left alone by their relatives and friends. The 2 women are about 3 kilometers apart from each other and, yet, they are both suffering from either a mental illness or a nervous breakdown. They are both elderly women who should be living with their respective families or inside a home for the aged. Instead, the 2 old women are living the streets as poor outcasts.
The first homeless woman in the video is called by some residents in the area as ‘Aling (Filipino word for Madam) Aurora’. According to residents in the area, she's been living in the streets of San Pedro, Laguna, Philippines for about 6 years now. Madam Aurora has made a street corner along the highway as her 'official home’. She's long been suffering from a mental sickness.
The 2nd old woman in the video is called by some residents in the area as Aling (Filipino word for Madam) Delia. The old lady has been living in the streets for about 5 years now. She's also suffering from a mental illness and she basically lives alone in the streets. She's one of the 'old and homeless people' from San Pedro, Laguna, Philippines who are suffering from a mental disease and who don’t have contact anymore with their respective families. Such homeless senior citizens may have long been disconnected from their family, relatives and friends.
There are old and homeless people throughout the world who have mental illnesses and who have been left alone to live in the streets. The problem discussed here is a global phenomena. Be it in Europe or in Asia, such social problem exists. Such global problem should be resolved so we can secure the basic rights of the elderly people. Elderly people also deserve respect and dignity as human beings.
I brought this issue up because the world is now a global village and many elderly women are being left alone in the streets to live as ‘outcasts’. I hope world leaders would help all the old and homeless people of this planet to find their way back home. If they don't have houses anymore to return to, then let's give them a chance to live decently as elderly citizens. LET'S HELP THEM!
