Commemorating the violent May 1998 riots in Indonesia in which more than 1,000 people are believed to have died, the Nusantara Bersatu Community puts on a photo exhibition and illustration at the Royal Plaza.
Commemorate the tragedy in May 1998, Nusantara Bersatu Community held a photo exhibition and illustration at the Royal Plaza on Friday (25/5).
Exhibition as one of a series of activities themed 'Iling lan Waspodo' (Remember and Beware)featured 8 archival photographs, 17 sketch of events, 35 sketch the face and victims of the tragedy in May 1998.
As is known, in May 1998 is an important milestone in the history of Indonesia. At that time the civil society movement spearheaded by students with loud echoing voice of justice and the successful overthrow of Suharto's New Order government in power for 32 years.
May 1998 at the same time is a black sheet. Humanitarian and Human Rights (HAM) was battered by a series of incised wounds of tragedy.
In this period the student shootings, forced disappearances of activists and ethnic-based violence (torture, looting, rape etc) occur massively. Until now, after 14 years on, not look any action from the state to reveal the true facts.
