As a general rule Demotix editors are oft quick to edit user story titles, intros and captions, however in the case of:
Unidentified burned the headquarters of the candidate Ahmed Shafik
http://www.demotix.com/news/1242678/unidentified-burned-headquarters-candidate-ahmed-shafik -- something obviously went wrong.
There is a world of difference between "ransacked headquarters" and "burned the headquarters". There is not a single photo in this album that demonstrates fire, a burning building, or even burned items from within the headquarters. There is a photo of a fire truck -- but you can find these all over the city tonight in both Cairo and Alexandria. Where is the photo showing the firemen with water hoses putting out the alleged fire?
We need to be more responsible than this.
Just the other day a photo that was taken by a journalist in 2003, in IRAQ, was used to depict a casualty scene after one of the ongoing massacres in Syria. This was an epic fail on the part of the BBC. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/9293620/BBC-News-uses-Iraq-photo-to-illustrate-Syrian-massacre.html
I believe that Demotix strives for the higher moral ground in journalistic integrity than did the BBC and will demonstrate this by correcting the above referenced story title.
