Mandate Trade Union, has called for a No vote in Thursday's Fiscal Treaty referendum. In addition to two other trade unions, Unite and the CPSU, the union believes voters should vote No in Thursday's poll.

General Secretary of Mandate John Douglas believes that passing the Fiscal Treaty will "legally lock down Irish economic activity at its current levels, and may even shrink domestic demand further leading to mass unemployment, decades of emigration and sow the seeds for future social conflict"

Speaking as a special guest at a Sinn Féin rally on Monday, Douglas asserted that a "No vote draws a line in the sand" regarding acceptance of austerity in Europe.
