People in Toronto take part in Casseroles Night in Canada or 'Manif Casseroles', banging on pots and pans to protest austerity measures and Bill 78, in solidarity with the Quebec student demonstrations.
All across Canada tonight, people took up pots and pans for what has become known as Casseroles Night in Canada. In solidarity with the Quebec student uprising and as a protest against austerity measures, Toronto's own version of this 'Manif Casseroles' took to the streets. People wearing mostly red banged on every type of pot, pan and kitchen implement they could get their hands on. What started as a 1000 strong demonstration in Dufferin Grove quickly grew to a crowd of 2000 clanging 'casseroles' as they wound their way through Toronto's west end.
