A broadcast moratorium that prevents Irish tv and radio broadcasts having content related to the Fiscal Treaty referendum ceases after polls close this evening. The moratorium only affects tv and radio broadcasts regulated within the State.
The broadcast moratorium is enforced by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) under a Code on Referenda and Election Coverage. The BAI states that the "key aim of the Code is that a broadcaster's coverage of all elections is fair, objective and impartial to all interests. "
