The river Thames was awash with over 1,000 boats fronted by the rowbarge Gloriana and Royal barge Spirit of Chartwell which carries HM Queen Elizabeth II. The flotilla set sail from Battersea for a 7 mile (11 kilometer) journey to Tower Bridge.
