Inaugurated in December 2008 replacing Rhamutullah Raufi, Tooryalai was born and raised in Kandahar and achieved his PH.d in British Colombia, Canada. His wife is a medical doctor, he and his family lived in Canada for 13 years but returned to their homeland to work on development.
He indicates the importance of Kandahar highlighting the fact that most Afghan King's came from the province and that 200 years ago it was the capital.
Today he was at the poll booth drawing in mass crowds of supporters and media interest.
