Palazzo Marino (Milan) - The press conference announcing the opening of the "MITO SettembreMusica" festival (Milan / Turin september music festival) with the presidents of the festival: Mr Pisapia and Mr Fassino (they also are the mayors of the cities), councilors culture Mr Boeri (Milan) and Mr Braccialarghe (Torino), Vice President of the festival: Mr Micheli and the artistic director of MITO: Mr Restagno.
(extract from http://www.mitosettembremusica.it) "Developing and expanding upon 30 years of experience racked up by Torino’s original and prestigious SettembreMusica, beginning in 2007 the festival became MITO SettembreMusica as Torino and Milano teamed up for a joint effort in the arts. A slew of great musical performances at popular prices throughout the month of September invades theaters, concert halls, churches, courtyards and piazzas, transforming Torino and Milano into one immense concert venue! MITO SettembreMusica may be considered at the forefront of integration processes involving the two host cities and a prime example of cultural vitality. Recent editions of our annual 3-week musical cavalcade have counted over 100 initiatives in each of the host cities and a minimum of 2-3 daily performances in Torino and Milano."
Today has also started "MITO Fringe": (extract from www.mitofringe.it) "A series of off-program concerts as we count down the days to September’s big MITO Festival. Milano comes alive June 6 to July 7 with 72 performances in streets, piazzas, courtyards, parks, universities, libraries, railway and subway stations, and lots more special venues, throughout the entire city!"
The first performances to open the MITO Fringe fest were: Thymosax Quartet (classical) in Piazza della Scala, and Dirty Dixie Jazz Band: marching and dancing from Piazza San Babila to Piazza del Duomo (Dome Square).
