In the Philippines, Independence Day is an annual national holiday observed on 12th of June, commemorating the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on 12 June 1898. It is the country's National Day.

On June 12, 1898, General Emilio F. Aguinaldo proclaimed at the balcony of his ancestral home on Calle Real in Kawit, Cavite, the independence of the Republic of the Philippines, and the Philippine flag was hoisted as the national anthem called Marcha Filipina Magdalo was played by the San Francisco de Malabon marching band in the presence of a huge crowd.
