Extravagant display of pomp and pageantry at the Mall as HM Queen Elizabeth II attends the Trooping the Colour at the Horse Guards parade. The ceremony is to celebrate the sovereign's official birthday.
The Trooping the Colour ceremony was restored in 1820 on the accession of King George IV after existing in various forms from around 1700.
The main aspects of the parade have changed very little since then and has been held each year in London, apart from during the world wars and a national rail strike in 1955. 2012 marks the 361st Trooping the Colour.
