St.Petersburg, Russia, August 29-30. 2009 - «Continental Cup» international tournament for dancing in wheelchairs took place in Sports-Concert Complex "Peterburg". It was attended by athletes from Austria, Belarus, Brazil, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Kazakhstan, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Finland and various regions of Russia.

Wheelchair dancing is continuing to grow in popularity around the globe and is now recognized as an official international paralympic sport.

With an increasing number of dance centers and organizations that cater to those who are physically challenged, wheelchair users can learn to dance socially or competitively -- and actively participate in their favorite dance styles, including square dancing, line dancing, ballet, jazz, Latin American, and traditional ballroom dancing.
