It seems everyone is focusing on insurance in the ongoing U.S. healthcare reform debate. But, there are many other issues that should not go unnoticed such as the following true case.
1980 - "John" is a newly diagnosed type 1 diabetic. His monthly medication costs to manage his diabetes was $17.98 for 2 bottles of Pork/Beef insulin.
2009 - "John" who is now morbidly obese has monthly costs which have skyrocketed to $3,300.00 for 30 bottles of recombinant DNA insulin.
The U.S. can only hope that decision makers look at all the causes for the current healthcare troubles, and not limit themselves to the insurance issues.
