Datacell and WikiLeaks win Credit Card ban case in Iceland Court
Datacell, which serves as a mediator for WikiLeaks in Iceland, sued Valitor over the transaction ban Visa and Mastercard placed on payments to the website in December 2010. The District Court of Iceland ruled that Valitor was guilty.
Datacell, which serves as a mediator for WikiLeaks in Iceland, sued Valitor over the transaction ban Visa and Mastercard placed on payments to the website in December 2010. Today the District Court of Iceland ruled that Valitor was guilti and should open for the payment channels in the next 14 days or els face 800,000 ISK(about $6,200) in daily fines.
In December 2010 all of the world’s main credit card companies, Visa, Mastercard, Bank of America, Western Union and Paypal, decided to close off all payment channels to WikiLeaks after it leaked extensive information from US embassies around the world.
