Seahawks Gdynia defeat Warsaw Eagles 52 to 37 in the Polish Superbowl
Seahawks Gdynia defeated Warsaw Eagles 52-37 in the VII Superfinal, the title game of the Polish League of American Football. The game was watched by some 25 thousand spectators and played for the first time on the National Stadium in Warsaw.
American football in an increasingly popular sport in Poland. Although the games are usually attended by some few hundred spectators, the Superfinal was played at the National Stadium in Warsaw and attended by some 25 thousand fans.
During the game the speaker tried to explain all of the more complicated rules in order to make people more familiar with this sport.
The game itself was a very offensive spectacle with few succesful defensive plays. High score, 52-37, reflects this attitude. There was no single punt during the whole game.
The game was within one touchdown until the fourth quarter, when the Seahawks scored twice in a row and increased their lead to 15 points. The Eagles were unable to close down the gap.
Mike McMahon, an American running back from the Seahawks, was a dominating player and his excellent performance was rewarded with a MVP title.
The event will likely lead to an increase in the American football's popularity in Poland and was attended by many journalists and photographers.
